Nothing says “focused on jobs” quite like mandatory ultrasounds
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, 2/24/12: “That’s what I’m focused on [jobs]. We can’t always help what the media decides to focus on. It’s sometimes a very different set of issues.”
Over the past few weeks, Governor McDonnell has said repeatedly that he is focused on creating jobs and not re-litigating the divisive social issues of the past. But today, he signed an invasive ultrasound bill that makes Virginia just the 8th state in the nation that would require women to get an ultrasound before having an abortion. Mandating ultrasounds may play well to the conservative Republican base, but it’s bad for women and for the millions of Americans who believe our focus must remain on creating jobs and expanding opportunity.
