New Reporting and Campaign Missteps Further Expose Slick Rick Jackson’s Record of Rigging the Health Care System at Georgians’ Expense

In the past few weeks, a series of devastating new stories – and multiple comments from Rick Jackson himself – have exposed Jackson’s record as the ultimate insider who has rigged Georgia’s health care system to his own benefit. Georgia is one of ten states that haven’t expanded Medicaid, which has resulted in nine rural hospitals across the state shutting their doors since 2010 and caused hundreds of thousands of Georgians to struggle to afford health care. Yet Jackson said the state’s refusal to expand Medicaid isn’t a big deal and said Georgians don’t need health insurance – even while he profits off of a broken health care system.

1. A new investigative report revealed that Rick Jackson made a predatory loan to a struggling hospital in Alabama at risk of closing because of the state’s failure to expand Medicaid, a clear example of how Jackson profits when the health system fails patients.
2. When Jackson was asked about the consequences of failing to expand Medicaid, he said, “I don’t think the consequences are as bad as anyone else thinks.”
3. Jackson said Georgians don’t need health insurance, saying “not having insurance in Georgia does not mean you don’t have healthcare. There’s a huge difference.”
4. A bombshell new report revealed that Jackson this summer signed a new renewal of a multimillion-dollar state contract that would extend into the next gubernatorial term –  despite repeatedly promising to unwind all his business with the state.
5. CNN shockingly revealed that Jackson’s healthcare company faced a class action suit over allegations it trafficked and mistreated nurses working for the company.
