New Poll: Trump Drops to 28% Approval in VA
Ed Gillespie Still Won’t Condemn Deeply Unpopular Trump
Today, a new Roanoke College poll shows Virginians have completely soured on President Trump. His approval rating now sits at an all-time low of 28%, with 57% disapproving. In fact, every single one of Trump’s metrics was lower now than in February:
More than half of those polled (57%) disapprove of the way President Trump is handling his job, while about one-third (28%) approve. At the same time, a majority (53%) of respondents have an unfavorable view of him, while 31 percent have a favorable impression of Trump. Those numbers are all more negative than those reflected in February.
Back in the February poll, Trump’s disapproval was seven points lower and his approval was four points higher.
That’s also bad news for Ed Gillespie. Even with Trump’s plummeting numbers, Gillespie has been on the run for more than a week refusing to criticize the president for his controversial comments on Charlottesville.
Just yesterday, Gillespie was asked by The Daily Progress about Trump’s defense of the white supremacist protests, and he once again refused to condemn the president’s comments:
“I speak for myself and I’ve made my views clear and how I would serve as governor of the commonwealth, and I think people see that and appreciate the kind of response that I have put forward,” he said before exiting the hotel lobby.
“Donald Trump is the least popular politician in modern Virginia history,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “From his poor response to Charlottesville, to his proposed cuts to education funding, Donald Trump’s policies have been bad for Virginians. But even with the mountain of evidence against him, Ed Gillespie still refuses to criticize him. Virginia needs a governor who will always put the Commonwealth first, and protect against Trump’s harmful policies.”
