NEW POLL: Dead Heat Between James and Johnson in Michigan GOP Primary, Trump Deeply Unpopular

New polling shows a wide-open, messy GOP gubernatorial primary in Michigan, with the race between self-funder Perry Johnson and two-time statewide loser John James getting nastier and more expensive.

Johnson and James are polling 21% to 20% as millions go into their “lackluster” campaigns. Johnson has pledged $10 million which has so far been spent on mudslinging and competing to prove who is more loyal to Trump. Meanwhile, the poll also found Trump is deeply unpopular, with roughly 53% of voters disapproving of his job and only 42% approving, as his chaotic agenda is raising costs and cutting health care.

The James campaign even tried to do damage control by releasing a poll that was more than a month old and bragging that James has stood with Trump “every single time.”

“As the GOP primary for governor tightens to a near-tie and Trump’s unpopularity soars, Republicans in this race are locked in a messy primary that is about who can do more to back Trump’s agenda that has raised costs and cut health care,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “As this chaotic, expensive, wide-open race drags on, the candidates’ baggage is only getting heavier, giving Michiganders a laundry list of reasons to reject their extreme records in November.”
