New Mexico GOP Gov. Candidates Push Big Lie As Official Who Instigated Sham Election Audit Found Guilty for Role in Jan. 6th Attack

“To date, no Republican candidates…have denounced the audit”

New reporting is highlighting just how deep the New Mexico GOP candidates for governor are in the conspiracy that the 2020 election was a lie. As New Mexico Republicans go down the rabbit hole and launch a tax-payer-funded audit of the 2020 election, the GOP gubernatorial candidates are going down with them  — either supporting the audit or making its mission a central part of their campaign rhetoric.

GOP candidate for governor Jay Block stated outright, “I support anyone who wants to do an audit,” while Rebecca Dow said, “I would think that even the declared winners would want to assure the public we have election integrity!”

Mark Ronchetti’s campaign website states the unsubstantiated claim that “automatically issuing mail-in ballots without a request from the voter is an invitation for fraud.”

Ronchetti also has ties to the Couy Griffin, the New Mexico county commissioner and ‘Cowboys for Trump’ leader who kicked off the sham audit. Ronchetti has previously cozied up to Griffin — who was found guilty in a federal court for his involvement in the Jan. 6th insurrection this week — posing with him in a photo from the 2020 New Mexico GOP convention.

“New Mexico GOP candidates for governor should call this audit for what it is — a waste of taxpayer money and a dangerous assault on our democracy,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Instead, they’re embracing Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories with open arms. While they parade around touting lies, they’re just isolating themselves from the issues New Mexicans care about — creating better schools, lowering prices, and making communities safer.”
