NBC: How Gov. Tina Kotek Made Oregon Housing More Affordable
A new report from NBC News highlights how Gov. Tina Kotek’s laser focus on building more housing and cutting red tape has “made housing more affordable” in Oregon.
As NBC reports, Gov. Kotek’s “middle housing” policy lowers costs by incentivizing the building of affordable and accessible duplexes and Accessory Dwelling Units statewide – benefiting families, first-time homeowners, and older adults alike.
Gov. Kotek has a long record of delivering on affordable housing. When she was Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, she championedlegislation that legalized middle housing in single-family neighborhoods.
“People need to have options to live where they want to live,” said Gov. Tina Kotek. “What my bill does, it says ‘please build different types of options’ … We’re still going to build single family homes. [My bill says], when you’re a developer, you have a choice. And the market will dictate if it’s a single family home or if you can subdivide a lot and build four townhomes.”
