Minnesota Medical Association’s MEDPAC Endorses Gov. Tim Walz for Reelection

“Gov. Walz has demonstrated alignment with our core values of respect, honesty, and support for science and public health.”

Last week, the Minnesota Medical Association MEDPAC endorsed Gov. Tim Walz for reelection. The political action committee of the nonpartisan group representing over 11,000 Minnesota doctors, residents, and medical students endorsed Gov. Walz despite his GOP opponent Scott Jensen being a doctor.

In their decision to endorse Gov. Walz, MEDPAC said, “The ongoing global pandemic and other critical healthcare issues are at stake this year and that compelled the organization to support a candidate who would best advocate for the health of Minnesotans.”

They added, “Gov. Walz has demonstrated alignment with our core values of respect, honesty, and support for science and public health.”

The endorsement comes following a press conference at the state capitol last week, where Minnesota doctors of all specialities slammed Scott Jensen for injecting politics into public health and spreading harmful disinformation.

“We are here as physicians to emphasize that Dr. Jensen’s views and recommendations are far out of step with science, which could result in grievous harm to the health and life of this community and cause additional suffering,” said Dr. Penny Wheeler, former CEO of Allina Health.

Jensen has made a name for himself by spreading disinformation that threatens public health. He’s denied the efficacy of vaccines, spread COVID conspiracy theories and has appeared with top anti-vaccine activists many times.

Jensen has also threatened political retaliation against Minnesota’s Board of Medical Practice, a board of doctors investigating whether Jensen is actually qualified to be a licensed doctor.

“Gov. Walz’s approach to governing with common sense and respect for public health and science is worlds away from Scott Jensen, who spreads harmful disinformation and threatens doctors,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “There is only one candidate in the race who Minnesotans can trust to keep them safe and to always be on the side of science and that’s Gov. Walz.”
