Mike DeWine Wants To “Go As Far As We Can” To Ban Abortion
On a Friday call with the group Ohio Right to Life, Mike DeWine said he plans to “go as far as we can” to completely ban abortion with no exceptions if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
DeWine has already signed a dangerous law banning “most abortions” with no exceptions for rape or incest and hasn’t ruled out more dangerous policies like criminal punishments for women, throwing doctors in jail, or banning contraception.
He’s also refused to denounce comments from one of his allies in the Ohio GOP, calling it an “opportunity” when a woman is raped.
Meanwhile, DeWine’s Democratic challenger Nan Whaley has promised to be the “last line of defense” for Ohio women’s reproductive freedoms if elected.
“Mike DeWine’s extreme plan to go as far as he can to rip away reproductive rights from women and criminalize health care providers is too dangerous for Ohio,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “DeWine has already banned most abortions without exceptions — and he’s refusing to rule out extreme policies from his party to punish women even further. It’s critical that we defeat DeWine and stop his assaults on Ohioans’ freedoms.”
