Mike Braun Votes Against Protecting IVF as He and His Running Mate Plan to Take Indiana’s Extreme Abortion Ban Further

Braun: “There’s no need to protect [IVF] because no one’s trying to take it away.”

Yesterday, Senator Mike Braun voted against the Senate’s Right to IVF Act, which would have protected access to IVF at the federal level if enacted. Braun’s vote against the bill comes after he voted against the bill on the last vote earlier this year, once again failing to stand up for Hoosiers’ reproductive freedom.

Braun’s repeated votes against the bill come as no surprise given his stance from earlier this year, arguing that, “IVF, there’s no need to protect it because no one’s trying to take it away.”

Extreme abortion bans across the country have thrown the future of IVF access into uncertainty, leading other GOP-led states to take action to ensure access. Instead of outlining a plan to protect IVF access in Indiana, Braun and his running mate Micah Beckwith, were both recently exposed for their plans to take the state’s abortion ban even further by criminalizing pharmacists who dispense abortion medication, and women who get abortions.

“This is the second time in only a few months that Mike Braun has kept the door open to attacks on IVF, while he also threatens to take Indiana’s extreme abortion ban even further,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “While Hoosiers across party lines want leaders who will stand up for reproductive freedom, Mike Braun wants to take Indiana backwards and should explain why he once again refused to protect IVF.”
