Louisiana’s Intra-Party Brawl Continues, As Republicans Ramp Up Attacks on Jeff Landry

A new report from Louisiana Illuminator highlights how the chaotic infighting between Republicans running for governor in Louisiana is ramping up, with the candidates attacking Jeff Landry for the state’s soaring crime rate under his watch as attorney general.

GOP candidate and State Senator Sharon Hewitt said: “For the top cop, is crime better than it was eight years ago?”

These are just the latest attacks on Landry from his fellow Republicans as he was attacked last month for “ducking events where all of the candidates appear on the stage together.”

Additionally, a super PAC supporting candidate Stephen Waguespack spent heavily on an attack ad alleging that Landry had “failed” as attorney general.

The bad blood between the candidates has been so bad that Landry needed Republican Congressman Steve Scalise, the House majority leader to step in on his behalf and personally call on the PAC to take down the ad in an attempt to calm down the nasty party infighting.

“Louisiana Republicans continue to be engulfed in a nasty brawl with each other” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “With months to go until election day and more attacks being thrown every day, this intra-party infighting is only going to get nastier and messier by the day.”
