Louisiana’s Intra-GOP Brawl Takes Another Messy Turn as Jeff Landry Ducks Events, Avoids Other Candidates
A new article from The Advocate highlights how the bad blood among Republicans running for governor in Louisiana continues to worsen by the day as the GOP field attacks Jeff Landry for “ducking events where all of the candidates appear on the stage together.”
The report notes that the Landry campaign is even telling event organizers that if they want him to show up they must ensure “that he speaks alone.”
This comes after super PACS supporting Landry and his fellow Republican candidate Stephen Waguespack began spending heavily on attack ads to tear each other down. The attacks on Landry have been so bad that Republican Congressman Steve Scalise, the House majority leader, had to step in and personally call on the PAC to take down the ads in an attempt to calm down the intra-party brawl.“
Jeff Landry is already so spooked by attacks from his opponents that he’s going out of his way to avoid seeing them at events,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “Landry had better buckle up — with four months to go and half a dozen candidates throwing punches in every direction, the race is only going to get nastier from here.”
