Kobach Makes Bizarre Slavery Comment In GOP Debate

Kobach Compares Himself to “Slave Farmers”

In a bizarre and offensive move, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach used his first Republican gubernatorial debate to compare himself to a “slave farmer.”
From the Topeka Capital-Journal:

In response to a question about a property tax lid applied to city and county governments, there was consensus that robust barriers to annual escalation in property taxes was a necessity. Income from the small farm Kobach operates in eastern Kansas is consumed by property taxes, he said.
We are slave farmers for Kansas. We are growing our crops for Kansas and not ourselves,” he said.

His offensive comments are not surprising. Instead of doing his job, Kobach spends most of his time wasting taxpayer dollars on attention seeking crusades. Insensitive remarks about slavery are par for the course.
“Kris Kobach’s comments are offensive to Kansas voters and don’t belong in today’s society, let alone a debate stage,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Kansas already suffers a damaged reputation from the disastrous Sam Brownback economic policies. Kris Kobach would only further embarrass the state with outrageous and offensive remarks, combined with a continuation of Brownback economics.”
