Kelly Ayotte In Lockstep with Anti-Abortion Extremists U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton and Gov. Glenn Youngkin
Former U.S. Senator and candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte will be campaigning with U.S. Senator and anti-abortion extremist Tom Cotton of Arkansas next month, according to WMUR, the latest anti-choice extremist to line up behind her candidacy. This comes on the heels of news that Ayotte will travel to Virginia to fundraise with Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who recently vetoed a bill to protect access to contraception in his state and was dealt major losses in last year’s legislative elections after campaigning on new abortion restrictions.
Sen. Cotton is one of the most extreme anti-abortion members of Congress, earning an “A+” rating from the extremist anti-choice group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America for his work dismantling reproductive freedom. Cotton calledRoe v. Wade a “tragic mistake,” and said that the Supreme Court’s overturning of abortion rights for millions of Americans was a “great victory.” Cotton referred to U.S. military policies that make it easier for service members to access reproductive health care as “abortion tourism,” and said that active military members should “take leave” if they need an abortion but are based in a state where it is banned.
Kelly Ayotte’s own abortion record is equally concerning: in the U.S. Senate, Ayotte led the charge for a national abortion ban, called for the overturning of Roe v. Wade before Cotton had even entered the Senate, voted against funding for Planned Parenthood, and voted to make it harder for Granite Staters to access birth control. After leaving the U.S. Senate, Ayotte was hand-picked to serve as the “sherpa” for Supreme Court Justice nominee Neil Gorsuch’s Senate confirmation, paving the way for the eventual overturning of Roe.
“While Kelly Ayotte tries desperately to downplay her dangerous anti-choice track record in public, her campaigning with out-of-state anti-abortion extremists tells Granite Staters everything they need to know about her agenda as governor,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Tom Cotton and Glenn Youngkin are two out-of-touch extremists who have made attacking reproductive freedom a key priority. If these are leaders that Kelly Ayotte considers allies, Granite Staters should be very concerned.”
