Kelly Ayotte Embraces JD Vance Despite His Attacks on IVF Treatment, Medication Abortion
After U.S. Senator JD Vance was announced as Donald Trump’s running mate, Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte quickly took to social media to praise this selection, claiming that the Trump-Vance ticket is “strong.”In less than two years in the U.S. Senate, Vance has made clear just how extreme he is by voting against in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and advocating to restrict medication abortion:
-
Vance voted against the Right to IVF Act, which would have ensured access for all Americans to critical fertility treatments.
-
Vance pushed to get the Department of Justice to revive a 150-year-old law to restrict access to medication abortion, a proposal pulled directly from the pages of Project 2025.
Despite these attacks against women and families, Ayotte has called Vance “well qualified to serve as Vice President.” It’s not surprising to see Ayotte support Vance and his extreme agenda – her own voting record is equally as dangerous. In addition to voting for a national abortion ban and calling for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Ayotte also voted for the Blunt Amendment and cosponsored the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, both of which would have allowed insurance companies and employers to deny employees coverage of certain care, including birth control, IVF treatment, mental health care, and more.
Just recently, it was revealed that Kelly Ayotte paid Donald Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt “$12,200 in consulting fees between September and November 2023,” at the same time as Leavitt was also actively promoting Trump’s dangerous and extreme Project 2025 agenda, which also calls for restricting access to medication abortion, among other dangerous policies.
“While Kelly Ayotte is working overtime to distract Granite Staters from her record of attacking reproductive freedom, she’s once again enthusiastically embracing the extreme and dangerous agenda from her Senate days to ban abortion nationwide and threatened to put access to IVF treatment at risk by supporting JD Vance and Donald Trump,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Ayotte’s support for Trump and Vance only reminds Granite Staters of what they already know about Kelly Ayotte: she is a self-interested politician who will do and say anything to get ahead.”
