Kari Lake Calls for Repealing Affordable Care Act
At a campaign event on Monday, Kari Lake called for repealing the Affordable Care Act, a stance that’s so unpopular even members of her own party have abandoned the idea.
“We need to overturn Obamacare and come up with something better,” Lake said, getting no audible reaction from the crowd. She then went on to slam the late Republican Sen. John McCain, saying, “One of our old Arizona senators went in late at night and gave the old thumbs down.”
Not a single GOP Senate candidate is running on overturning the law, and the House Republican agenda has no mention of the Affordable Care Act, proving just how extreme Lake’s stance is.
Katie Hobbs, meanwhile, has a record of expanding access to affordable health care. In the legislature, she worked across the aisle to expand Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans.
Lake’s campaign did not respond to HuffPost when asked if she also supports repealing Medicaid expansion in Arizona.
“While Katie Hobbs has fought tirelessly to expand Arizonans’ access to affordable health care, Kari Lake would rip that progress away and leave working families to struggle with medical bills,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Lake’s stance is cruel and out of touch, and the choice between her and Hobbs couldn’t be clearer.”
