Johnson and Pawlenty Refuse to Rescind Endorsements of Bigoted Rep. Jason Lewis
Despite New Hate-Filled Recordings, Johnson and Pawlenty Standing By Their Buddy
Yesterday, Buzzfeed dropped another bombshell report on Rep. Jason Lewis’ spiteful comments. The latest reports have Lewis comparing gays and lesbians to “rapists” and contending same-sex parents “could harm the kid.” This comes after CNN’s report exposing recordings from Lewis’ radio show where he longed for the days of calling women “sluts.”
And through it all, who has stood shoulder to shoulder with Lewis? Tim Pawlenty and Jeff Johnson.
Despite knowing these atrocious comments existed before they endorsed Lewis, Pawlenty and Johnson not only supported his run in 2016, but continue to lend their names to the Lewis campaign site.
“Today’s Republican Party does not know shame. Still, it’s surprising Jeff Johnson and Tim Pawlenty continue to stand with a bigot,” says Democratic Governors Association Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “All this confirms is the 2018 GOP is the party of Trump. These comments barely cause Johnson and Pawlenty to bat an eye. It’s well past time they rescind their endorsements, and they should do so immediately. If not, their silence speaks volumes.”
