It took less than 24 hours since Tim Pawlenty officially announced his candidacy for governor, and he’s already flip-flopped on Donald Trump and admitted he has a hard row to hoe to getting elected.
In 2016, Pawlenty said Trump was “unsound, uninformed, unhinged and unfit to be President of the United States, and I am withdrawing my support of him.”
Yet, now that he has moved back to Minnesota to run for governor after making millions doing Wall Street’s bidding, he is telling Minnesotans he voted for Donald Trump despite deeming him “unhinged” and “unfit.”
Later on, he admitted “it’s not going to be the easiest year for Republicans.”
“It’s unclear if Tim Pawlenty is running for governor as some sort of extravagant piece of performance art, but it’s fair to say Day 1 on the campaign trail was not good,” said Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “He’s already admitted he supports Donald Trump’s policies, and voted for the man despite deeming him ‘unfit’ and ‘unhinged.’ If that’s the kind of judgment he will bring to the governor’s office, why would Minnesotans want him anywhere near running the state? Two failed terms is enough.”
