In New Audio, Tim Michels Calls 12-Year-Old Rape Victim’s Pregnancy “Created by God”

Latest News

While Tim Michels has desperately scrambled to hide his extreme stances on abortion, Michels has long opposed abortion access, including in cases of rape or incest. In a recently rediscovered 2004 interview, Michels said he would tell a 12-year-old rape victim that her pregnancy was “created by God.”

During his gubernatorial campaign, Michels has said his views on abortion are an “exact mirror” of Wisconsin’s 1849 law which would force even child victims of rape and incest to carry pregnancies to term. While Michels has attempted to change his views on these issues for political purposes, his long history of extreme stances makes his true feelings evidently clear.

In July, Michels refused to commit to protecting contraception, and the last time he ran for office, he signed a pledge supporting a constitutional amendment that would have banned abortion nationwide.

Michels has also faced fire for using his family’s personal foundation to fund extreme anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ groups that oppose all forms of contraception and IVF, support total abortion bans without any exceptions, and attack transgender children.

“Tim Michels has made it clear that he does support and always has supported abortion bans with no exceptions, even in the most extreme cases of rape or incest,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Michels’ newly exposed comments are disgusting and unacceptable. Tim Michels is too radical and dangerous ever to be put in the governor’s office.”
