“There are a lot of states who gave up waiting for Congress to do something and took action of their own. New Jersey’s Democratic governor just did something unique.” Chris Jansing
In case you missed it, Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy yesterday appeared on MSNBC to talk with Chris Jansing about his recent executive order to combat gun violence. The executive order directs the New Jersey Department of Treasury, the Division of Purchase and Property, and the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance to promote responsible gun safety practices for gun vendors and financial institutions providing services to the state, and take action against insurance policies that encourage firearm use. The order is unique in that it uses the state’s purchasing and regulatory powers to hold gun manufacturers, retailers, and the financial institutions that provide services to those entities accountable for promoting gun safety principles.
As governor, Murphy has consistently promoted commonsense gun safety reforms including co-founding the coalition “States for Gun Safety.”
