ICYMI: Dr. Sanjay Gupta Rips Gov. Brian Kemp’s Disastrous Pandemic Response

“It’s a disaster here in Georgia, Governor. Nothing has gone right.”

On CNN’s New Day this morning, Dr. Sanjay Gupta blasted Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for his terrible handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new report from the White House COVID-19 task force warned that COVID-19 in Georgia is “widespread and expanding” and “will require continued, expanded, and stronger mitigation efforts.” The task force strongly recommended Georgia implement a statewide mask mandate, which Kemp is firmly against – even though widespread mask usage could save tens of thousands of lives.

Kemp brushed off the report as “pandemic politics” – but the report was written by a Republican White House administration.

Dr. Gupta, who calls Georgia home, tore into Kemp’s COVID-19 response, and said what all of us were thinking: “It’s a disaster here in Georgia, Governor.”

Kemp has ignored science and public health officials from the beginning. He caved to political pressure to reopen Georgia early even though his team knew the state did not have enough PPE for health care workers, refused to issue a mask order and then sued the City of Atlanta for trying to require masks, and issued a lackluster, unclear plan for reopening schools safely that resulted in chaos and confusion.

Thanks to Brian Kemp – Georgia now has the highest cases per capita over a seven-day average of any state.
