ICYMI: Americans Are Increasingly Dissatisfied with GOP Governors’ Lackluster Response to COVID-19
A Gallup poll released this week showed GOP governors are losing support for their handling of COVID-19, while Democratic governors’ high approvals remain steady. Considering the incompetence displayed by GOP governors these past few weeks – we’re not surprised:
- Missouri Gov. Mike Parson encouraged Missourians to wear a mask on Twitter then couldn’t be bothered with wearing one himself at a crowded event with many older guests.
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called the deadly surge of COVID-19 cases in his state “a blip” and blamed the media for the spread of COVID-19.
- South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem got on Air Force One even though she knew she had been exposed to COVID-19, and also told South Dakotans science has not yet proven masks are a useful tool.
- Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp sued the city of Atlanta for mandating mask-wearing, a proven way to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Democratic governors like New Jersey’s Phil Murphy, Maine’s Janet Mills, Kansas’ Laura Kelly, and countless others continue to receive praise for their strong, competent leadership because they are taking the pandemic seriously and following the advice of public health experts.
