“I Believe Women Are In Danger”: New Evergreen Values Ad Calls Out Reichert’s Votes Against Exceptions to Protect the Health of the Mother
Sexual assault survivor Heather M.: “Reichert said as governor he would work to unravel protections for abortion access here, and I think that is cruel.”
Evergreen Values, a group backed by the Democratic Governors Association, is releasing a new ad in the 2024 Washington governor’s race, titled “Survivor,” that highlights former congressman Dave Reichert’s extreme record of voting to ban abortion nationwide and opposing exceptions to protect the health of the mother.
Heather M., a victim of childhood sexual abuse, warns in the new ad that “If Reichert becomes governor, I believe women are in danger.” In addition to his time in Congress as an “anti-abortion stalwart,” Reichert got caught at a closed-door town hall during his campaign for governor this year pledging to work toward “unraveling” protections for abortion access.
Even as Reichert has courted votes from members of an organization who want to “END ABORTION once and for all,” he has been called out for running a “cynical” ad attempting to mislead voters about where he stands when it comes to protecting reproductive freedom, and lying on the debate stage about his extreme and unpopular position.
“Washington women know that Dave Reichert is too extreme for Washington, and his cruel and dangerous record of voting against abortion exceptions to protect the health of the mother put people at risk,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “No matter how hard Reichert tries to mislead Washingtonians about what he stands for, his record tells voters everything they need to know about how he won’t keep them safe.”
