House Republicans say GOP Governors On Board with Plans to Cut Medicaid

Today, new reporting from Bloomberg Government revealed that House Republicans are moving ahead with their plans to slash Medicaid and cut the health care of millions of Americans, with no vocal opposition from GOP governors.

According to Bloomberg, “Health Subcommittee Chairman Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) noted he has yet to hear opposition from Republican governors on GOP Medicaid plans.”

With Donald Trump back in office, Congressional Republicans immediately got to work proposing new ways to cut Medicaid, with plans to “dramatically shrink” Medicaid and “rolling back the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of Medicaid.”

This comes as no surprise as GOP governors remain staunchly opposed to efforts to expand Medicaid in states like Florida, South Carolina, and Mississippi, even though making that move would expand affordable health care coverage to hundreds of thousands of people in their states.

“GOP governors refusing to expand access to affordable health care coverage, while lining up behind Congressional Republican efforts to gut Medicaid, is extremely dangerous for millions of Americans,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “While GOP governors endanger working families in their states, Democratic governors remain committed to protecting and expanding quality and affordable care for the people in their states.”
