Here’s Why North Carolina Republicans “Continue to Feel Uneasy” About Mark Robinson
New reporting this week from The Dispatch shows that North Carolina Republicans “continue to feel uneasy” about Lt. Governor Mark Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign, as more and more of his “long trail of controversial statements” comes to light.
Here are just a few of the dangerous and out of touch comments and positions that have caused Republicans to “fret” over their frontrunner:
-
The American Independent: “In a now-deleted Facebook comment from 2018, Republican North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson falsely accused David Hogg, a survivor of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, of being a paid actor.”
-
CNN: “GOP frontrunner for NC governor mocked school shooting survivors and once justified shooting protesters”
-
Talking Points Memo: “North Carolina’s Lt. Governor Is A Facebook Brawler Whose Posts Railed Against Gays, Blacks, And Jews”
-
Charlotte Observer: “In Winston-Salem, Robinson compared being gay to ‘what the cows leave behind’ as well as maggots and flies, who he said all serve a purpose in God’s creation. ‘If homosexuality is of God, what purpose does it serve? What does it make? What does it create? It creates nothing,’ Robinson said.”
-
WRAL: “NC’s lieutenant governor: ‘We are called to be led by men,’ not women”
Robinson has pledged that if elected governor, he would sign legislation to make sure women “can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason” — including if they have been victims of rape or incest or if their own life is at risk. After North Carolina Republicans passed an extreme new abortion ban, he said that he hopes they will “continue to move the ball” to further restrict abortion, guaranteeing that “abortion will be one of the biggest issues on the ballot in 2024.”
“Mark Robinson is an unapologetic extremist whose dangerous agenda puts North Carolinians in harm’s way and threatens to drive families, workers, and businesses out of the Tar Heel State,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “Even Republicans recognize that Robinson is wrong for North Carolina.”
