CONCORD — Gov. Maggie Hassan spoke out at the Statehouse on Tuesday to help spread the word about an online fundraiser for local animal shelters.
She read a proclamation that officially makes next week New Hampshire PetSave’s Homeless Pet Awareness Week.
PetSave, an organization created just a year and a half ago, has brought 12 shelters together to raise money online in hopes that working together can help them achieve their goals of saving the lives of animals across the state.
More than 120 people gathered at the site of the bell in Concord, surrounded by animal shelter volunteers and pets up for adoption to hear about the first nonprofit collaboration of its kind in New Hampshire. The event officially kicks off next week.
Anita Burroughs, the founder of PetSave, said people can visit their website to donate. They have received more than $10,000 since launching the site last week and hope to raise $100,000 by the end of next week. She said she started the online fundraiser to reach new supporters through social media.
