Greg Gianforte Admits He Wants To Destroy “Vital” Medicaid Expansion Just Days After Promising To Protect The Program

Just a couple of days ago, Gianforte tried to pull the wool over Montanans’ eyes and claimed that he wasn’t interested in cutting “vital programs like… Medicaid expansion.” But he couldn’t keep the facade up for long — in an interview with The Helena Independent Record, Gianforte admitted that he supports dismantling the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Without the ACA there is no Medicaid Expansion, and pretending otherwise is lying to Montanans. 

Nationwide, Americans are making it clear that Medicaid expansion should be the law of the land. Just yesterday, in Oklahoma, despite Republican Governor Kevin Stitt’s forceful opposition, voters approved Medicaid expansion on the ballot. 

Gianforte knows that dismantling the ACA would be throwing 112,000 Montanans off their health care and ripping away protections for pre-existing conditions for up to 152,000 Montanans. Last year, Gianforte voted against directing Congress to oppose the Republican lawsuit to overturn the ACA and he has called Medicaid expansion “a disaster,” and pledged to dismantle the ACA “piece by piece.”

“In the middle of a pandemic, Greg Gianforte supports dismantling the Affordable Care Act and destroying Montana’s vital Medicaid expansion program,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “That Gianforte would try and hide his true intentions from voters is further evidence that he’s unfit to lead. Montanans deserve so much better.”
