Governor Shumlin’s Statement on Scott Walker’s State of the State Address
Washington, DC – Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, issued the following statement on Governor Scott Walker’s State of the State address:
“Governor Walker loves to tout himself as a reformer, but the truth is that he’s been a failure for Wisconsin’s middle class. Governor Walker has failed to deliver on the core promise of his 2010 campaign: that he’d create 250,000 new private-sector jobs. And while failing to create the climate for growth that allow new businesses to get off the ground and thrive, he’s made deep cuts to education to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest and major corporations.
“Wisconsin needs a governor who will work to strengthen the middle class by investing in education, making college more affordable, cutting taxes for small businesses and improving job training programs so that Wisconsin workers have the skills they need to compete in a 21st century economy. That’s exactly the governor Mary Burke will be.”
