Gov. Whitmer Secures “Major Police Endorsement despite Dixon’s tough-on-crime rhetoric”
Ahead of the first debate today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer continued to build her broad coalition of support across the state, with the endorsement of the largest independent police organization in Michigan representing thousands of law enforcement officers, the Michigan Association of Police Organizations (MAPO).
The endorsement comes as Gov. Whitmer launches ‘Public Safety Officials For Whitmer,’ a coalition of over 200 public safety leaders. Gov. Whitmer has previously announced major endorsements from Republican and Independent leaders, along with key business organizations. See below for coverage from around the state:
Detroit Metro Times: “The largest independent police organization in Michigan officially endorsed Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for another term on Wednesday, a significant blow to her Republican opponent Tudor Dixon, who paints herself as the law-and-order candidate.”
Bridge Michigan: “Whitmer’s campaign on Tuesday launched a ‘Public Safety Officials for Whitmer’ coalition and announced a 34-member leadership council that includes Iosco County Prosecutor James Bacarella, a Republican.”
MLive: “The Whitmer campaign unveiled a list of 34 public safety officials backing her reelection Tuesday. It included sheriffs, prosecutors, and some municipal police and fire chiefs. Whitmer lavished praise on public safety officials and detailed a long list of appropriations her budgets have brought police, firefighters and paramedics.”
