Gov. Polis Takes Executive Action to Protect Freedom and Privacy of Reproductive Health Care Patients and Providers in Colorado
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis is taking immediate action to safeguard abortion access and protect patients and providers seeking reproductive care from extreme abortion bans in other parts of the country.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed an Executive Order to protect the freedom and privacy of Coloradans, and ensure Colorado remains a great place to live, work, and run a business.
The action protects people working in Colorado from any disciplinary action for providing or seeking reproductive health care in Colorado or any other state. It also makes clear that Colorado will not cooperate with criminal or civil investigations in other states for health decisions that are legal in Colorado.
Gov. Polis’ move to protect Coloradans’ privacy and reproductive freedoms follows executive action by Democratic governors across the country to protect people seeking reproductive health care.
Gov. Polis also signed the Reproductive Health Equity Act into law in April, which codifies protections to ensure that abortion and choice remain legal in Colorado. Meanwhile, GOP nominee for governor Heidi Ganahl testified against – and said she would “rip up” – the Reproductive Health Equity Act if elected governor.
“In a post-Roe America, the reproductive rights you have depend on who your governor is — and Gov. Polis is taking action to protect Coloradans’ privacy and right to access lifesaving reproductive health care,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Meanwhile, Heidi Ganahl wants to rip away Coloradans’ reproductive rights and ban abortion. Coloradans are counting on their governor to protect their rights, and the only way to safeguard them is to re-elect Gov. Polis in November.”
