Gov. Murphy Lowers the Costs of Prescription Drugs, LifeSaving Medication in New Jersey

Yesterday, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed new legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs, including plans to cap the costs of lifesaving medications such as insulin, EpiPens, and asthma inhalers.

The New Jersey Monitor reported, “New Jersey will require greater transparency on prescription drug pricing, institute more oversight over groups that negotiate them, and impose caps on out-of-pocket expenses for medications needed to manage some chronic conditions.”

These actions are the culmination of years of Gov. Murphy’s hard work to prioritize making New Jersey more affordable for working families. Under Gov. Murphy, there have been 20 tax cuts for middle-class families and seniors in New Jersey. He also launched the Office of Health Care Affordability and Transparency in 2020 to focus on cutting health care costs.

“Gov. Murphy is delivering on his promise to make New Jersey more affordable and help the middle class and seniors get ahead,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “Gov. Murphy’s actions are just the latest example of how Democratic governors are delivering real results for the biggest issues impacting Americans in their states.”
