Gov. Laura Kelly Secures Latest Major GOP Endorsement: Former Kansas Republican Gov. Mike Hayden
Hayden: “The affairs of Kansas are in good shape right now, and I credit the bipartisan approach of Governor Kelly”
Yesterday, former Kansas Republican Gov. Mike Hayden joined his fellow former GOP Gov. Bill Graves, along with a large coalition of Republicans across the state, in endorsing Gov. Laura Kelly over Derek Schmidt.
“In 50 years in Kansas politics I’ve seen the good times and the bad,” former GOP Gov. Hayden said in a new video. “The affairs of Kansas are in good shape right now, and I credit the bipartisan approach of Governor Kelly.”
In his endorsement, former Gov. Hayden credited Gov. Kelly for adopting a multibillion-dollar highway and transportation program. He also applauded her record-high investment in K-12 public schools, job creation, and eliminating the state’s sales tax on groceries.
Meanwhile, Derek Schmidt is dealing with additional backlash from Republicans, with sitting GOP state senator Dennis Pyle running as an Independent and launching attacks against Schmidt.
“Governing from the middle to bring both sides together is how I’ve always operated and it’s how we’ve been able to accomplish so much these past few years,” said Gov. Kelly. “I will always fight for what’s right for Kansas. Not for any one political party.”
