Gov. Hobbs Emphasizes Affordability Agenda, Strong Record in State of the State Address

Yesterday, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs gave her fourth State of the State address, outlining her top priorities for the year as she looks to build on her strong record of delivering for Arizonans. Emphasizing the importance of affordability, she noted her support for bringing down taxes for the middle class and lowering the cost of housing.

Since taking office, Governor Hobbs has delivered for Arizonans, creating over 100,000 jobs, eliminating medical debt for nearly half a million Arizonans, and cracking down on drug trafficking and securing the border.

KGUN: Gov. Hobbs calls for tax cuts in State of State Address

  • The Governor told lawmakers her administration helped create thousands of jobs, helped people escape millions of dollars in medical debt, lowered the cost of child care, intercepted tons of illegal drugs, and protected Arizona’s water supply.
  • She is calling for a Middle Class tax cut of about two hundred million dollars, increasing the standard deduction on Arizona income taxes and cutting taxes on overtime and tips.

  • “While the federal government neglects drug smuggling and human trafficking cases to chase deportation quotas, Arizona is taking on the cartels,” Hobbs said. “While the federal government uses law enforcement resources to score political points in cities thousands of miles from the southern border, Arizona is laser-focused on securing the border, getting drugs off the streets, and cracking down on criminals poisoning our neighborhoods and our children.”
  • She also called for a $200 million tax cut for middle class Americans, but pointedly told lawmakers she won’t sign off on cutting taxes for the wealthy or corporations.
