Gov. Hobbs Delivers Huge Wins for Working Arizonans with Bipartisan, Common-Sense Budget
Last week, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed the Arizona Promise Budget, delivering on her commitment to make Arizona more affordable and safer.
Gov. Hobbs’ bipartisan budget deal takes action to stop drug smuggling and human trafficking across Arizona’s southern border, raises pay for state police officers and firefighters, invests in public education, and allocates vital funds to protect health care access for over 60,000 Arizonans with disabilities.
This is just the latest in Gov. Hobbs’ long record of bipartisan accomplishments that make life better for Arizonans, including eliminating the tax on rent, slashing red tape to make housing more affordable, canceling two billion dollars in medical debt for up to one million Arizonans, and over $100 million in border security funding to local law enforcement agencies — all while repealing the state’s 1864 total abortion ban.
Read more about how Gov. Hobbs’ budget is a win for Arizonans:
- Arizona Republic: “It’s worth noting who was worth noting in the session now (mercifully) ended … first among the winners has to be Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.”
- Arizona Capitol Times: “[Gov. Hobbs] beat back efforts to impose new requirements on eligibility recipients of Medicaid and food stamps. And, with the help of parents bringing their children with disabilities to the Capitol to stare lawmakers in the face, she outmaneuvered Republicans who sought to slash funds that were available for those parents to provide care.”
- KJZZ: “The $17.6 billion budget was the product of negotiations between Hobbs, Democratic lawmakers and Senate Republican leaders. [Gov. Hobbs] praised the plan for including several of her priorities, including pay raises for state troopers and $45 million in child care assistance that will unlock even more federal funds.”
- Arizona Capitol Times: “The $17.6 billion budget included several proposals the governor had requested when she presented her executive budget request to lawmakers in January, like funding for childcare programs, Colorado River litigation, veteran homelessness initiatives and health care for developmentally disabled individuals.”
- AZFamily: “House Democrats called the budget a win for ‘public school students’ and said this budget still ‘protects Medicaid and expands healthcare for Tribal members.’”
- Arizona Mirror: “Gov. Katie Hobbs has signed the $17.6 billion state budget that was passed with bipartisan majorities in both chambers … Those included 5% pay raises for state troopers, full funding for the universal school voucher program and full funding for the Division of Developmental Disabilities Parents as Paid caregivers program.”
Here’s what they’re saying about how Gov. Hobbs’ budget delivers for Arizona:
- Arizona Trooper’s FOP Lodge 32: “Lodge 32 attended the AZ budget signing. We helped secure a 5% raise for State Troopers — a step forward. Much more work ahead to ensure all DPS employees are fairly compensated. Thank you @GovHobbs, @AZDPS Dir. Glover, @AZTroopers & lawmakers. #AZTroopers #ArizonaBudget #FOP”
- Arizona Trooper’s Association: “We’d like to thank the legislators who voted to approve this budget and the Governor for signing it. Though this was an important first step, we have much more work to do to solve the problems that the men and women of DPS struggle with everyday. We will continue to advocate for them, to ensure we are able to retain those with invaluable knowledge and tenure, and attract the highest quality candidates in the future. #azleg #aztroopers #troopersmatter @AZHouseGOP@AZHouseDems @AZSenateGOP @AZSenateDems @GovernorHobbs”
- Arizona Chamber: “Arizona’s economic future depends on responsible water management. SB 1611 is a bipartisan win for conservation, growth, and smart stewardship. Grateful to @GovernorHobbs and the #AZLeg for getting it done.”
- Stand for Children AZ: “Thank you to the Arizona legislature and Governor Hobbs for including $45 million to expand childcare subsidies in the budget and cover about half of the children on the waitlist!”
