Glenn Youngkin Endorsed by Donald Trump Less Than 24 Hours After Eking Out a Primary Win
Less than 24 hours after barely winning the Republican nomination for governor in Virginia, Donald Trump immediately announced his endorsement of Glenn Youngkin.
The endorsement comes after Youngkin spent months during the brutal primary aligning himself with Donald Trump’s far-right extremism, from refusing to denounce Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election to adopting his conspiracy theories that led to the January 6th insurrection as his only campaign policy proposal.
Even though Trump’s losing margin in Virginia was the biggest for any presidential candidate in the state in 32 years, Youngkin is still in lock-step with Donald Trump’s policies. To this day, he declines to state that Joe Biden is the legitimately elected President of the United States while simultaneously opposing wildly popular measures that would help Virginia families, like the necessary federal COVID-19 relief passed in the American Rescue Plan, critical investments in infrastructure, and Medicaid expansion.
“The immediate endorsement from Donald Trump makes it clear Glenn Youngkin is a far-right extremist more interested in the support of the former president than for the policies that make a real difference for Virginians,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Youngkin’s continued embrace of a conspiracy theory that led to the deaths of five people proves he is unfit to lead Virginia.”
