“Full of Sh*t”: New Jersey’s Mega-MAGA Ad Wars Get Louder and Uglier
Facing criticism for not kissing Donald Trump’s ring in his last race for governor, two-time failed Republican candidate for governor Jack Ciattarelli is taking no chances against insurgent former talk radio host Bill Spadea, releasing a new ad accusing him of not being sufficiently loyal to Trump.
WATCH:
This new ad comes as the fight for Trump’s endorsement has gotten increasingly nasty and personal, as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the New Jersey Monitor, and Politico. Spadea and his allies have run their own digital ads attacking Ciattarelli for his previous anti-Trump comments and claiming the he hasn’t “supported Trump at all,” and calling Ciattarelli a “fake Republican” who “turned his back on President Trump.”
Ciattarelli’s first TV ad of the election last week also starred Donald Trump – a stark contrast to his 2021 race where he didn’t feature Trump in a single ad and did not seek his endorsement. His change in strategy could have something to do with Trump’s previous criticism of Ciattarelli’s lack of loyalty, with Trump claiming “I think [Ciattarelli] made some very big mistakes,” and “[Ciattareli] never came to ask for my support, and you know what? When MAGA sees that, they don’t like it and they didn’t vote for him. He would have won easily if he did, but he didn’t do that. He thinks he’s hot stuff, I guess, and he doesn’t have to do that.”
“With three months still to go in this mega-MAGA Republican primary, this week’s ad wars are proof that things are only going to get messier and more expensive for Jack Ciattarelli and Bill Spadea,” said DGA Campaign Communications Advisor Emma O’Brien. “As Ciattarelli and Spadea pump more and more money into tearing each other apart, they’re only showing Garden State families that they couldn’t be more extreme, out of touch, or wrong for New Jersey.”
