From the Chair's Desk: Walker's Latest Move
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is at it again.
First Walker launched a surprise attack on workers’ rights, drawing a massive backlash from Wisconsin voters. Now he’s trying to roll back the clock on women’s rights in the workplace.
This past Thursday Walker repealed an Equal Pay law that helped victims of wage discrimination to have their day in court. Walker’s action makes it easier for employers to discriminate against female workers and other groups—this in a state where women make 75 cents for every dollar that their male counterparts make.
Unfortunately this is part of a larger effort by Republican governors to roll back women’s rights, roll back voting rights, and roll back workers’ rights. That’s why the Democratic Governors Association is working with our partners in Wisconsin to replace Governor Walker with a Democratic governor who will respect basic rights.
Governor Walker was going to have to face Wisconsin voters on June 5 and explain to them why he thinks it’s OK to attack workers. Now he’s going to have to explain why he thinks it’s OK to roll back women’s rights.
