Failure to Launch: Jackson Stumbles Into the General Election
Rick Jackson has had a disastrous first week as the Georgia GOP’s gov nominee.
His primary opponent, Burt Jones, is refusing to endorse him – and predicting Republicans will lose in the fall. Meanwhile, Jackson has not been seen in public since Election Night. He skipped a GOP unity event held this weekend, amidst rumors that Republicans are still angry with him over the way he attacked Burt Jones. And he has done zero interviews with the press.
Here’s what you need to know about Rick Jackson’s failure to launch:
- After a highly contentious primary, Burt Jones is refusing to endorse Jackson and even said yesterday that he thought Georgia Republicans could lose in November.
- Jackson has held zero events since becoming the nominee.
- Jackson completely skipped the Georgia GOP’s 250 Rodeo unity event – amidst speculation that he has yet to heal wounds with the Burt Jones-aligned state party.
- Jackson has done no interviews with the media since winning the nomination. He skipped interviews with 11Alive and FOX5. Keisha Lance Bottoms did interviews with both stations.
“Rick Jackson has had a disastrous first week of the general election,” said DGA spokesperson Kevin Donohoe. “Burt Jones isn’t just refusing to endorse him – he’s actively predicting that Rick Jackson will lose. Meanwhile, Rick Jackson has not appeared in public for more than a week – completely refusing to talk directly with Georgians and answer tough questions about his record of self-enrichment. Where’s Rick?”
