Every State, Every Vote Responds to the President’s Threats to Withhold Critical Funds from Michigan and Nevada
Today, President Trump threatened to withhold critical funding from Michigan and Nevada for enacting vote-from-home measures and working to protect democracy during the pandemic.
Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown released the following statement:
“President Trump’s baseless accusations of voter fraud and threats against states are dangerous to the health of our democracy. Governors from both parties are moving to vote-by-mail to protect access to free and fair elections – and the president should be advocating for these measures, not tearing them down. His own pollsters found that the overwhelming majority of Americans support no-excuse absentee voting and safe in-person polling stations.
“For 22 years in Oregon, we’ve been voting by mail. The result? Huge voter turnout. No security issues. And bipartisan support. No one had to risk their life to have their voice heard.
“This administration needs to immediately support funding for vote-from-home initiatives in all states – our democracy depends on it. No American should have to choose between their health and their right to vote.”
