Every State, Every Vote: Gov. Northam Pushes Proposals to Increase Access to Voting

“[I]n a state that once put up tremendous barriers to voting, too many people are still unable to participate meaningfully in our democracy. By making it easier—not harder—to vote, these proposals will ensure we are building a government that is truly representative of the people we serve. “ – Gov. Northam
Today, Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced two legislative proposals for the 2020 session aimed at increasing voting access across the state. The first of the two proposals would establish an early voting period during the 45 days prior to an election. Currently, voters must provide a valid reason if they wish to vote absentee in an election. The second proposal would designate Election Day a state holiday.
