Medical Groups Speak Out As Daily Beast Reports on Buehler’s Strong Ties to Anti-Vaccine Group

Oregon’s medical community has recently come together to speak out against one of their own, Republican candidate for governor Dr. Knute Buehler, over his dangerous position on vaccinations. When asked about the issue in a debate last week, Buehler said “I certainly believe that parents should have the right to opt out.”
Yesterday, three local medical organizations asked that Buehler retract his dangerous anti-vaccine statement. Yet Buehler stood by his comments that parents should be able to opt their children out of vaccinations without a medical reason for doing so.
The Daily Beast also reported yesterday that Republican Buehler’s ties to the anti-vaxxer community run deep. His political director formerly worked for Oregonians for Medical Freedom, an organization that attempted to stop a bill that would eliminate non-medical vaccine exemptions for Oregon’s school children.
“With a science-denying President already in office in Washington, the last thing Oregon needs is a governor who also denies science on an issue as important as the health of the state’s children,” said DGA Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “Buehler is rejecting the scientific consensus on Oregon children’s health, and Oregon voters should reject him.”
