Donald Trump Phones into Virginia to Once Again Crown Youngkin As His Hand-Picked Choice for Governor

Youngkin Says He “Appreciates” Trump’s Support

At a Virginia rally for Glenn Youngkin and the GOP ticket hosted by congressional subpoena-dodger Steve Bannon, Donald Trump phoned in live to remind supporters that Glenn Youngkin will further his MAGA movement if elected governor.

The rally kicked off by paying respect to the January 6th insurrection that left 5 people dead with the Pledge of Allegiance to a flag that was present at the attack. Speakers, including Steve Bannon, went on to repeat Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ that the election was rigged.

Then, Trump phoned in to endorse Glenn Youngkin for the 6th time, where he called Youngkin a “great gentleman” who will “do all of the things that we want a governor to do.” While Trump didn’t specify exactly which things from Youngkin’s far-right agenda he wants a governor to do, there’s a laundry list to choose from — from Youngkin’s vow to go “on offense” to defund Planned Parenthood and ban abortion, to his plans to roll back essential COVID-19 protections.

When asked about Trump’s praise, Youngkin accepted it gladly, saying “I appreciate those comments.” Youngkin also thanked the organizer of the rally “profusely” for setting up the event and supplied him with campaign signs to distribute.

“This is Glenn Youngkin’s vision for the Commonwealth: celebrating a deadly insurrection and spreading lies,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Even if he uses extremists like Steve Bannon as proxies to advance his far-right agenda, he’s backed Donald Trump and his deadly policies 100% of the time. There should be absolutely no question that Glenn Youngkin’s loyalties lie with the disgraced former president and not with the needs of Virginians.”
