Dogged by His Extreme Record and an “Escalating Feud” With Chris Carr, Burt Jones Holds First Campaign Rally

As Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones prepares to hold a campaign kickoff rally tonight, his extreme agenda and “escalating feud” with Attorney General Chris Carr are creating problems for his nascent candidacy.

Jones has long put loyalty to extreme partisan politics over what’s right for Georgia, and his failed record was on full display when he spoke at JD Vance’s event in Atlanta last week. There, Jones doubled down on his support for D.C. Republicans’ disastrous budget law, which raises costs, rips away health care from hundreds of thousands of Georgians, threatens rural hospitals and nursing homes, and jeopardizes manufacturing jobs across the state.

Jones is already locked in a chaotic, messy primary with Carr, who has also been outspoken in favor of the budget law. Carr and Jones were recently in court fighting over fundraising limitations, and the two have spent months clashing over Jones’ $10 million in self-loans and the legislative session. Last week, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution even highlighted how the infighting has taken “a nastier turn,” with a new ethics complaint throwing the race into further chaos.

“As Burt Jones takes the stage tonight, he’s left no doubt that he’s an out-of-touch politician who is running to bring the chaos of D.C. to Georgia — ripping away health care, raising costs, and killing jobs,” said DGA spokesperson Kevin Donohoe.
