Chip in today to elect Dem govs >>

Democratic governors are leading in the fight against Donald Trump. With our two historic victories in Virginia and New Jersey, grassroots momentum is on our side! But next year, nearly 80% of the country is voting for a governor – and with Republicans already investing to beat Dem govs, early support has never been so critical. Will you donate to elect more Democratic governors who will defend our rights and freedoms and stand up to Trump?

Do Maine’s GOP Gov Candidates Agree With Paul LePage and Bobby Charles That D.C. Republicans’ Extreme Budget Bill is “the Greatest Thing”?

Do Maine’s GOP Gov Candidates Agree With Paul LePage and Bobby Charles That D.C. Republicans’ Extreme Budget Bill is “the Greatest Thing”?

In a recent interview, U.S. House candidate and former Republican Governor Paul LePage called D.C. Republicans’ extreme budget bill that rips away health care and food assistance “the greatest thing that can happen to the Maine people.” Maine gubernatorial candidate Bobby Charles has also backed the legislation, despite the fact that it was opposed by Maine’s entire Congressional delegation, as well as Governor Janet Mills, and would gut health care, kill jobs, and end food assistance for thousands.

Mainers deserve to know: do the rest of the Republican gubernatorial candidates (and potential candidates) agree with LePage and Charles that ripping away health care and food assistance from Mainers is “the greatest thing that can happen”?

This extreme budget bill would be disastrous for Maine — and opposing it should be a no-brainer. Here are some of the consequences of the disastrous LePage and Charles-backed bill on Maine:

  • 61,000 Mainers will lose their health care coverage;
  • 101,000 Maine families will lose their food assistance;
  • Rural hospitals already struggling to keep their doors open will be forced to close, with four hospitals already at serious risk of closure;
  • Kills 1,200 manufacturing jobs in Maine;
  • And raises energy and electricity costs by 20 percent.
