DGA Statement on Virginia’s Gubernatorial Primary

DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper released the following statement ahead of polls closing in Virginia’s primary election:

“Abigail Spanberger is a mom and a former federal law enforcement officer and CIA case officer who has always put Virginia and our country first — and she has a record of bipartisan results for veterans and the middle class in Congress to back it up. Now, she’s running to make life easier for Virginians by lowering the cost of health care and housing, strengthening public schools, and standing up for their jobs and freedoms.

“On the other hand, Winsome Sears has proven she’s far too extreme for Virginia — she’s fought to defund public schools, cheered on DOGE cuts on Virginia’s economy, and has refused to oppose devastating Medicaid cuts — all while supporting a far-right abortion ban. Trump’s attacks on federal jobs, Medicaid, and public education only raise the stakes of this race, and we look forward to working alongside Abigail and the rest of the Democratic ticket to make history this November.”
