DGA spokesperson Johanna Warshaw released the following statement in response to Vicki Schmidt running for governor in Kansas:
“Vicki Schmidt’s entrance into the Kansas governor’s race throws the already messy and crowded GOP primary into extreme chaos – and Republicans are wasting no time attacking each other over who is more out of step with Kansas families. Schmidt brings to this race a disastrous and disqualifying record of voting to enact Sam Brownback’s failed tax experiment that left schools underfunded, gutted infrastructure funding, created a major budget crisis, and drove Kansas’ economy into the ground.
“On the other hand, Governor Laura Kelly has shown Kansans what steady, middle-of-the-road leadership looks like. Governor Kelly balanced the budget, brought record economic investment to Kansas, and finally eliminated the food tax. That’s exactly the type of leadership Kansans will want to stick with, no matter who enters the race.”
