DGA spokesperson Johanna Warshaw released the following statement in response to Ty Masterson running for governor in Kansas:
“Ty Masterson’s entrance into the governor’s race confirms that the already-crowded GOP primary will be defined by extreme positions that will drag Kansas backwards. In the State Legislature, Masterson not only voted to enact Sam Brownback’s failed tax experiment that left schools underfunded, gutted infrastructure funding, created a major budget crisis, and drove Kansas’ economy into the ground — he even tried to block the bipartisan effort to repeal the devastating law. Meanwhile, his opposition to Medicaid expansion that would give Kansans the care they need puts him even further out of step with people across the state.
“In contrast, Governor Kelly has delivered big wins for working families: balancing the budget, securing record economic investment, and finally eliminating the food tax. That’s exactly the kind of leadership Kansans will want to stick with, no matter who enters the race.”
