Today, Democratic Governors Association Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement on failed candidate Tom Leonard joining Michigan’s crowded and chaotic Republican primary:
“Tom Leonard is the latest failed statewide candidate to jump into a chaotic Republican primary that is already stuffed with flawed right-wing candidates. Leonard’s record of fighting against our public schools, voting against Medicaid expansion, and supporting an extreme abortion ban was rejected by Michiganders in 2018 and remains squarely out-of-touch with voters.
“Whether it’s John James, Aric Nesbitt, or Tom Leonard, we know the GOP will be stuck with a nominee who will put their own harmful partisan agenda first — at the expense of everyday Michigan families.”
