DGA Statement on the New York Gubernatorial Race
Today, DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper released the following statement on the New York gubernatorial race:
“Governor Kathy Hochul is a proven leader with a strong record of delivering for New Yorkers: putting money back in their pockets, protecting reproductive rights, and keeping communities safe. The Governor knows how to take on big fights and win for New York families — and her agenda is overwhelmingly popular with New Yorkers on both sides of the aisle. The Democratic Governors Association is 100 percent behind Governor Hochul as she continues to deliver for New York, take on Donald Trump, and build the operation it will take to beat Republicans up and down the ballot in 2026. For years, Governor Hochul has been underestimated — and each time proved her critics wrong.”
Governor Hochul is delivering on the priorities that matter to New Yorkers:
-
Affordability: Governor Hochul tripled the size of New York’s Child Tax Credit, cut taxes for middle-class New Yorkers (bringing them to the lowest rate in 70 years), and is sending first-of-their-kind inflation rebate checks directly to New Yorkers.
-
Keeping Kids Learning: Governor Hochul passed a bell-to-bell ban on cell phones in schools so that kids can focus on learning and ensured free school meals for over 2.7 million children statewide.
-
Safe Subways and Streets: The Governor has taken action to keep communities safe, including by fixing the discovery laws that allowed dangerous criminals back on our streets, putting more law enforcement on the subway in New York City, and combating the rise in hate crimes.
Last month, the DGA released the following memo on the state of the New York gubernatorial race.
