DGA Statement on the American Rescue Plan
President Joe Biden has signed the sweeping bipartisan American Rescue Plan into law, which includes $350 billion in state aid.
Democratic Governors Association Chair New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement:
“I’m incredibly grateful to President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats for delivering this desperately needed relief and support package to Americans. The American Rescue Plan is a game-changer – not only in our fight against the pandemic but in establishing a bridge toward the sustainable recovery we all need. Working families bearing the brunt of this awful crisis will benefit from the varied and immediate aid; states, localities and tribes working to mitigate the economic fallout of the pandemic will benefit from the significant direct funding; and all Americans will benefit from the provisions that will help us get schools safely back open and get more people vaccinated expeditiously.
“As Democratic governors continue to distribute vaccines as quickly and equitably as possible, and as we continue to work toward the safe expansion of commercial and day-to-day activities, it is more important than ever that states can count on the direct support of the U.S. government – and the significant funding provided here for public education, first responders, working families, the unemployed and so many other categories of people in need will make an enormous difference.
