DGA Statement on the 49th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
The following is a statement from DGA Chair North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on the 49th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade:
“On the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Democratic governors remain committed to protecting the right to choose. SCOTUS’ inaction on Texas’ near-total abortion ban has laid a foundation for Republicans in state legislatures to force new, extremist restrictions on abortion — and the future of reproductive health is on the line.
“This battle can no longer be fought on just the federal level. While the GOP relentlessly attacks a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, Democratic governors are the last line of defense against state-level restrictions. With 36 governor’s races this year, we must elect and re-elect Democratic governors who will protect and expand the right to choose.”
